Match Week 10 of the 2025/26 Kenya rugby season delivered thrilling action across the Kenya Cup, KRU Championship, and Nationwide leagues, with several teams strengthening their playoff ambitions while others battled to avoid relegation.
Menengai Oilers outshine MMUST to maintain home glory.
In the Kenya Cup, Menengai Oilers bounced back in emphatic fashion after thrashing MMUST RFC 48-3 at the Nakuru ASK Grounds. The Oilers, coming off a loss to KCB Rugby, produced a dominant display to keep their hopes of securing a home semi-final alive.
Alvin Khavoli opened the scoring with the first try of the match to extend his tally at the top of the Kenya Cup try-scoring charts. Kenya international Daniel Kipchirchir also crossed the whitewash while Abutwalib Wesonga added crucial conversions. MMUST managed their only points through a penalty from Flavian Otiyo as the Oilers carried a 12-3 lead into halftime before extending their dominance in the second half through tries from Fortune Aturo, Victor Were, and Kipchirchir.
Strathmore Leos narrowly outshine Nakuru
Strathmore Leos also registered their third straight win after staging a comeback to defeat Nakuru RFC 27-20 at Nakuru Athletic Club. The varsity side trailed in the second half but rallied through tries from Gabriel Ayimba, Stanislous Shikoli, and Collins Maina to secure victory.
Heavy rains in Nairobi disrupted two fixtures, forcing the abandonment of the KCB Rugby clash against Kabras Sugar and the match between KU Blak Blad and Impala RFC.
Elsewhere, Nondescripts RFC boosted their playoff hopes after beating Daystar Falcons 40-20, while Kenya Harlequin secured their Kenya Cup status with a 27-11 victory over Kisumu RFC, whose survival hopes continue to fade.
In the KRU Championship, Mwamba RFC maintained their lead at the top of the standings after edging Catholic Monks 20-17. The victory moved Mwamba to 40 points, two ahead of South Coast Pirates, who narrowly defeated NYS Spades 14-12.
Elsewhere, Zetech Oaks claimed a 10-6 victory over Kisii RFC while USIU Martials strengthened their survival hopes with a convincing 31-5 win against Homeboyz RFC.
With only a few rounds remaining, the battle for playoff qualification remains intense, particularly for the JKUAT Cougars, who sit third in the KRU Championship with a crucial game in hand following the postponement of their fixture against the Western Bulls.
