Chepsaita School Gets New Facilities in Sh1bn Uasin Gishu Projects

ACK Chepsaita Senior School in Turbo Constituency has received new education facilities following the commissioning of a modern administration block, science laboratory, library, classrooms and dormitory.
The facilities were commissioned during a ceremony attended by President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet, Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, Tourism Principal Secretary Julius Bitok and Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot.
The project was supported by Safaricom and the M-PESA Foundation as part of efforts to improve learning conditions and expand access to modern education infrastructure in the county.
Kibet said the investment demonstrated the impact that can be achieved when the government, private sector, education stakeholders and local communities work together.
He said the new facilities would provide students with a better environment for learning while encouraging them to pursue science and other disciplines that are important to Kenya’s economic development.
“These facilities will give students a better environment to learn, pursue science and live comfortably as they focus on their studies,” Kibet said.
He thanked Safaricom and the M-PESA Foundation for directing resources towards education and supporting learners in local communities.
Kibet said education remained one of the most important tools for transforming the lives of young people and helping communities overcome poverty.
Cheruiyot backs investment in education
Cheruiyot, who served as the chief guest, said the new facilities would help create an environment where students can develop their talents and pursue their academic ambitions.
The Senate Majority Leader said investment in education infrastructure was necessary to ensure learners receive quality and relevant education regardless of their social or economic background.
He said modern classrooms, laboratories and libraries would give students opportunities to develop practical skills and prepare for the demands of the modern economy.
“We are deliberately shaping the future of our young people by building an enabling environment in which every learner can excel academically,” Cheruiyot said.
Cheruiyot described the project as an investment in both Chepsaita Senior School and the wider community.
He also linked the development to efforts by the government to expand access to quality education, saying partnerships with the private sector were important in complementing public investment.
Safaricom announces Sh1 billion investment
Safaricom Foundation Trustee Ambassador Eng. Mahboub Maalim said Safaricom had committed Sh1 billion to 14 projects in Uasin Gishu County.
According to Maalim, the projects are expected to benefit more than 300,000 people through programmes focusing on education, health and economic empowerment.
Maalim, who delivered greetings from Safaricom Chief Executive Officer Peter Ndegwa, said the company was committed to implementing projects that meet the required standards and provide sustainable benefits to communities.
He said Safaricom’s community initiatives were part of its commitment to give back to Kenyans who continue to support the company’s products and services.
“Safaricom and M-PESA exist because Kenyans have supported us, and that is why we are supporting them,” Maalim said.
He identified education as a key priority, saying better learning facilities would help equip young people with skills needed in the job market and other areas of economic activity.
Leaders welcome partnership
Deputy Governor Barorot welcomed the investment, saying cooperation between national and county governments, private companies, development organisations and local communities could help address infrastructure gaps in schools.
He said the new facilities would improve the learning environment at Chepsaita and give students access to resources that were previously limited.
PS Bitok also praised Safaricom and the M-PESA Foundation for supporting education infrastructure in the county.
Bitok said laboratories and libraries were particularly important as Kenya seeks to prepare young people for an economy increasingly driven by science, technology and innovation.
The new science laboratory is expected to strengthen practical learning by giving students better opportunities to conduct experiments and apply concepts taught in class.
The library will provide additional space for reading, research and individual study, while the administration block is expected to improve the school’s management and administrative operations.
The dormitory, meanwhile, will help address accommodation needs and provide students with improved living conditions.
Leaders at the ceremony urged students to make proper use of the new facilities, remain disciplined and focus on their studies.
They said the investment should contribute to better academic outcomes while helping nurture future scientists, professionals, entrepreneurs and leaders.
The ceremony brought together national and county government officials, education officers, MCAs, school administrators, teachers, students, Safaricom and M-PESA Foundation representatives and members of the local community.
The development at Chepsaita Senior School comes amid growing calls for stronger public-private partnerships in education as schools seek modern facilities capable of supporting both academic and practical learning.
