Police Pursue Woman Who Allegedly Drugged Former Olympic Champion Asbel Kiprop in Eldoret Club, Robs Him Sh43,000

Police in Uasin Gishu County have launched a manhunt for a smartly dressed woman who allegedly drugged former 2008 Olympic 1500m champion Asbel Kiprop at a high-end entertainment joint on the outskirts of Eldoret City and robbed him of Sh43,000.
The incident, which occurred five days ago, has been confirmed by Langas OCPD Sephania Kamuren, who said investigations have been intensified to trace the suspect who is still at large.
According to police, Kiprop, who holds the rank of Chief Inspector in the Kenya National Police Service, lost Sh8,000 in cash from his pocket and an additional Sh35,000 withdrawn from his mobile phone after his drink was allegedly laced with a stupefying substance.
“The lady stole from Kiprop Sh8,000 in cash and another Sh35,000 from his mobile phone but she did not make away with his mobile phone,” said OCPD Kamuren.
The former world champion opened up in an interview with the media in Eldoret, narrating how he encountered the woman whom he described as disciplined and of high class at the popular club last Friday night.
“I was having my drink alone when I got attracted to the lady who was also having her drink while seated alone just some few metres from where I was sitting,” stated Kiprop.
He said he did not suspect any ill motive from the woman due to her decent appearance and the manner in which she conducted herself while they were drinking together.
“I have never been drugged by any lady in my drinking life, whenever I want to go for a short call, I always carry along with my glass of drink in my hand,” added Kiprop.
According to the athlete, while enjoying their drinks, they struck a deal that led them to a lodging facility located in the Annex area along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway where they were to spend the night together.
It is at the lodging that Kiprop says he suffered a severe reaction after consuming the drink.
“While in the room, I suffered a severe reaction, falling asleep and not able to walk until 3:00 pm the following day, which was a Saturday,” disclosed Kiprop.
He said when he finally woke up, the lady he had booked the room with was nowhere to be seen. On checking his belongings, he discovered that the Sh8,000 which was in his wallet and Sh35,000 in his mobile money account had been stolen.
“When I regained my senses, I decided to rush to Elgon View Hospital where I was treated and discharged before making my way to Langas Police Station to make a report about the incident about my drugging in a club,” stated Kiprop.
Kiprop, who is one of Kenya’s most decorated middle-distance runners, has warned revelers to be extra cautious as the festive season approaches, noting that cases of drugging and robbery in entertainment joints are on the rise in Eldoret and other urban centres.
“As we approach the festive season I am warning revelers in entertainment joints to be cautious of whom they are enjoying the drinks with lest you might be drugged by unsuspecting women who pretend to be nice, disciplined and honest only to turn out to be robbers or killers,” summed up Kiprop.
Police have urged members of the public who may have information about the suspect or similar incidents in clubs around Annex, Langas and the Eldoret CBD to report to the nearest police station.
