The High Court in Nairobi has ruled that the body retrieved from Lake Yakub in Wajir County is not that of the missing Member of County Assembly (MCA), Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, following DNA analysis.

The decision by Judge Alexander Muteti comes after intense scrutiny of the body recovered by authorities, which was initially thought to provide closure to Ahmed’s family.

According to DNA results, none of the samples taken from the body matched those of the missing MCA, leaving the family without answers regarding Ahmed’s whereabouts.

This revelation has sparked serious allegations, with the family’s legal representative, Danstan Omari, suggesting that the government may have intentionally provided the wrong body as a distraction.

Omari told the court that it was a “calculated move” by the government to deposit a decoy body in Lake Yakub, hoping to mislead the family and bring them closure by burying someone unrelated to the case.

“My lord, I have instructions that the body found in Wajir was a government-calculated move to act as a decoy. That body was a decoy to take the family to go and bury somebody for closure,” Omari stated during court proceedings.

The family lawyer further claimed that the government pathologist, Dr. Johansen Oduor, personally confirmed the results of two separate DNA tests performed on the body, both of which revealed no match to the missing MCA.

According to Omari, the tests were conducted at a government facility, KEMRI, and results were verified by Dr. Oduor, who participated in the analysis.

Omari emphasized the urgency and importance of these findings, claiming to have called Dr. Oduor shortly before the court session to ensure the pathologist would be available for testimony.

“I did personally call the government pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor told him that this matter is coming before you at 2, and he told me that the report is being typed, and the government analyst will be in court today at 2 pm,” Omari added.

The court’s ruling has left the case shrouded in mystery, as Ahmed’s family continues to search for answers.
