Kenya’s largest telecommunications company, Safaricom, has notified its customers of planned system maintenance that could cause disruptions across several services.
The maintenance is set to take place from 10 PM on October 26 to 5 AM on October 27, 2024.
This seven-hour window is part of the company’s efforts to enhance the reliability and efficiency of its systems.
In a public statement, Safaricom warned users to expect temporary interruptions in key services, including airtime top-ups, Okoa Jahazi (the emergency credit service), and the purchase of data bundles.
Other affected services include subscription renewals, postpaid bill payments, Sambaza (the airtime transfer service), Bonga points redemption, and SIM swap services.
The telecom giant emphasized that this maintenance exercise is necessary to ensure continuous improvement in service delivery.
“We understand the inconvenience this might cause, but the maintenance is crucial to enhance the overall customer experience and ensure our systems run optimally,” Safaricom’s statement read.
During the downtime, customers who attempt to access the affected services may experience delays or inability to complete transactions.
Safaricom advised users to make any necessary transactions in advance to avoid being caught off-guard by the temporary service outages.
The company assured its customers those essential services like voice calls, text messaging, and internet browsing will remain operational during the maintenance period.
However, for those reliant on services such as airtime top-ups or Okoa Jahazi for emergencies, it is advisable to prepare before the maintenance begins.
This planned maintenance is in line with Safaricom’s ongoing commitment to upgrading its infrastructure in a rapidly evolving telecommunications environment. With increasing demand for reliable digital services across Kenya, Safaricom continues to invest in network improvements to meet customer expectations and maintain its leading position in the market.
The company’s proactive communication about the scheduled maintenance highlights its transparency and commitment to minimizing inconvenience to its vast customer base. However, this announcement serves as a reminder for users to remain alert and plan their activities to avoid service disruptions during the specified hours.
As technology continues to evolve, such routine maintenance efforts are critical in ensuring that networks and services operate smoothly, offering customers seamless experiences across all platforms.
