The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) has secured land in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, to establish a new research facility.

The county government provided the land to facilitate research on various diseases, improving healthcare in the region.

Elijah Songok, speaking at Daima Towers in Eldoret during a committee visit, confirmed that KEMRI had acquired a health facility in Kapsoya Estate, which is set to be upgraded to a Level 4 hospital.

He also mentioned that efforts are underway to secure funding from donors, with the support of the Treasury, to purchase advanced equipment necessary for conducting medical tests.

In addition to these developments, KEMRI is collaborating with Voxpop to manufacture high-quality vaccines, a move aimed at enhancing the country’s biotechnology sector.

The research conducted at the new facility will focus on diseases such as cancer and diabetes, which have become increasingly prevalent across Kenya.

Songok emphasized that KEMRI will also work closely with conventional medicine to advance research on a wide range of ailments, contributing to better healthcare outcomes for the population.

The new research center is expected to play a crucial role in addressing the growing burden of non-communicable diseases in the country.
