The County Government of Uasin Gishu, under Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, has intensified its public health campaign with a sweeping crackdown on eateries flouting hygiene regulations.

On the second day of the ongoing operation, 18 food handlers from various establishments were arrested for non-compliance with health standards.

The county’s Preventive and Promotive Health Chief Officer, Dr. Paul Wangwe, led the inspection team tasked with verifying the authenticity of medical certificates and the general hygiene of food premises.

“Our priority is to protect the health of our people. Those without valid certification or presenting suspicious documents are flagged and subjected to legal processes,” Dr. Wangwe stated, adding that the operation is not a witch hunt but a necessary public health measure.

The county’s crackdown forms part of a broader initiative to enforce clean and safe food handling practices. Officials confirmed that the exercise would continue and expand across the region.

Deputy Director of Public Health Laban Kiprop urged residents to support the campaign by frequenting eateries that maintain proper hygiene. “Public health is a shared responsibility. We are setting the standard, and we call on the community to join us in demanding safer food environments,” Kiprop said.

The county has vowed to maintain the momentum of the campaign in its mission to reduce foodborne diseases and ensure the safety of consumers across all food establishments.
