Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim has launched a raft of transformative agricultural initiatives designed to uplift farmers in Sergoit Ward.
The colorful event took place on Friday, May 2, 2025, at the Tuyiotich Farmers Cooperative Society, drawing in hundreds of farmers, government officials, and agricultural stakeholders.
Addressing the public, Governor Bii reaffirmed his government’s commitment to strengthening agricultural productivity and supporting farmer organizations.
Among the highlights of the launch was the introduction of an E-voucher-based vaccination program targeting Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), a move expected to modernize disease management and improve livestock health across the county.
Farmers in Sergoit Ward will also benefit from the distribution of improved Juncao fodder varieties, aimed at boosting livestock nutrition and increasing dairy and beef yields.
Additionally, Governor Bii rolled out Enterprise Development Grants for Farmer Producer Organizations, providing vital funding to help local farmers expand and commercialize their agribusiness ventures.
To further improve mobility and service delivery in rural areas, the governor commissioned 21 new motorcycles set for distribution within the ward. These are expected to ease transportation hurdles and connect farmers more efficiently to markets and agricultural extension services.
In a bid to revitalize coffee farming, the county government will distribute 33,000 coffee seedlings to local growers, signaling renewed energy towards making coffee a key cash crop in Uasin Gishu.
Governor Bii, staying true to his “Nguzo Kumi” development pledge, emphasized that agriculture remains central to his administration’s priorities.
“We are fully committed to equipping our farmers with modern tools and resources to help them thrive and prosper,” Governor Bii said during the launch.
The initiative marks a major milestone in Uasin Gishu’s drive to modernize farming and raise farmers’ incomes across the region.
