Police in Kisumu County have started investigations ,plus a manhunt for people suspected of drug trafficking after they fled from the scene of a road crash, leaving behind a vehicle that had sacks of bhang inside it.
Police reports say officers from Miwani Police Station responded to an accident at Ombeyi Junction along the Chemelil–Miwani–Kisumu Road, after a tip off from members of the public.
When the officers arrived, they found out that a white Mazda CX-5, registration number KDX 905A, had veered off the road when the driver lost control, then it overturned into a ditch at the roadside.
Witnesses stated that members of the public pulled the occupants out soon after the crash, then they informed the authorities. But by the time police came in fully, those occupants had already gone missing, and their current location is still not known.
During a check of the wreckage and the exact accident spot, officers also came across several sacks of bhang, which were hidden inside the vehicle.
The bhang was seized and recorded as exhibits. The vehicle was then moved to Miwani Police Station, for more examination and secure keeping.
Police added that probe work is still underway to locate and arrest the individuals connected to the illegal consignment, while attempts to track the suspects continue.
