Kenya Extends Condolences to Uganda Following Devastating Floods and Landslides

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives and destruction caused by flash floods and landslides in Bulambuli District, Eastern Uganda.
Heavy rainfall in the region triggered the disaster, leaving 13 people dead, displacing many families, and causing significant destruction to homes and livelihoods.
In a heartfelt message, Mudavadi extended condolences on behalf of the Kenyan people to the affected families and the Ugandan nation.
“On behalf of my fellow Kenyans, I extend heartfelt condolences to the families of the 13 individuals who have lost their lives, as well as to those who have been displaced or lost their homes and livelihoods in this calamity,” he said.
The catastrophe has left more than 100 people reported missing, and rescue operations are ongoing.

Mudavadi emphasized Kenya’s solidarity with Uganda during this challenging period, expressing hopes for the safe recovery of those still unaccounted for.
“To all the affected families and our brothers and sisters in Uganda, we stand in solidarity with you and wish you strength and resilience during this difficult time of loss and recovery,” he added.
The disaster has highlighted the vulnerability of communities in Eastern Africa to extreme weather events, which are becoming more frequent and severe due to climate change.
The heavy rains that caused the flash floods and landslides have left entire villages submerged, disrupted infrastructure, and complicated rescue and recovery efforts.
This tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for enhanced regional collaboration in disaster preparedness and climate resilience strategies.
As Kenya extends its condolences, there is also an underlying message of regional unity in addressing such challenges collectively.
The Kenyan government has offered its moral support and stands ready to assist if called upon by Uganda during the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts.
