Junior Secondary School teachers from across Eldoret received a major boost after taking part in a multi-sport training program held at Kapsoya Primary School ahead of the JSS county games.
The one-day program focused on three key disciplines: Rugby, Basketball, and Athletics, with the aim of equipping young learners with basic skills and encouraging early sports development.
RUGBY TRAINING
Rugby was among the most active sessions, led by Lamec, a World Rugby trainer from Nakuru, North Rift Rugby Development Officer Humphrey Kisala, and Rodney Kipkoech, Secretary of the Rift Valley Rugby Referees Association.
The teachers were taught the basic skills and laws that make rugby more exciting, such as handling skills, movement coordination, and safe tackling techniques, while also introducing modified versions of the game suitable for Junior Secondary learners.

BASKETBALL SKILLS
Trainers in the basketball group were taken through basic drills in dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense. Many of the participants were new to the sport but quickly picked up the rhythm and showed growing confidence.
ATHLETICS DEVELOPMENT
Athletics trainers focused on sprint starts, speed, and endurance skills important for young runners in a region well known for producing top athletes. The session attracted enthusiastic participation, with trainers eager to improve their learners’ running technique.
