Turkish football manager Engin Fırat, who previously served as head coach of Harambee Stars, has died after suffering a sudden heart attack.

The 55-year-old reportedly collapsed at Istanbul Airport while travelling from Beirut to Adana in Turkey, only hours after leaving Lebanon.

Fırat had recently been appointed head coach of Lebanese Premier League side Nejmeh SC on February 9, 2026. During his short stint at the club, he worked with several Kenyan players, including Austin Odhiambo, Anthony Akumu, and Masoud Juma.

In a statement, Nejmeh SC confirmed his passing and paid tribute to the coach, describing him as a dedicated professional who made a strong impression during his brief time with the club.

“To Allah we belong, and to Him we shall return,” the club said in a statement, adding that Fırat was admired for his professionalism, commitment, and high ethical standards.

Nejmeh’s management, players, staff, and supporters extended their condolences to his family and loved ones, saying he had left a lasting mark on the club despite his short tenure.

Fırat’s coaching career spanned several countries and continents. Before joining Nejmeh, he managed national teams including Harambee Stars, the Moldova national football team, and also had coaching stints in Iran.

During his time with Harambee Stars, which ended in late 2024, Fırat guided Kenya through a challenging period for the national team while helping develop emerging talent.
