The County Government of Uasin Gishu, through the Department of Trade and Cooperatives, hosted a trade delegation from Turkana County on a benchmarking mission on Friday.

The delegation, led by Chief Officer for Trade and Industrialization Pauline Tangarae, visited Uasin Gishu to learn from the county’s successful implementation of the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) and the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) projects.

The Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Trade and Cooperatives, Martha Cheruto, warmly welcomed the delegation and highlighted the importance of these transformative projects in reshaping the local economy.

Cheruto emphasized that the main objective of these initiatives is to foster aggregation, value addition, and job creation, which will benefit both the county and the broader region.

“These projects are set to redefine trade, commerce, and the local economy,” said Cheruto.

Turkana’s Chief Officer for Trade and Industrialization, Pauline Tangarae, expressed her gratitude for Uasin Gishu’s willingness to share its expertise.

She noted that Uasin Gishu, as the chair of the North Rift Economic Bloc (NOREB), stood out in its successful project implementation, making it the top choice for Turkana’s learning mission.

“You’re our topmost and preferred county for learning,” Tangarae remarked.

She further explained that Turkana is in the process of establishing similar projects and is keen to understand every aspect of the CAIP and EPZ initiatives from the initial stages through to completion.

The Eldoret EPZ, the only one in the NOREB region, plays a significant role in promoting export-oriented investments and creating an environment conducive to investment growth.

This project is expected to contribute greatly to the region’s economic development by boosting production and exports.

Both the CAIP and EPZ are designed as hubs for industrial processing and trade facilitation, with the CAIP serving as a centralized location for value addition.

This setup allows local businesses to scale up production and enhance the competitiveness of their products.

Meanwhile, the EPZ plays a vital role in facilitating product exports.

Among those present at the meeting were Chief Officer for Trade Felix Kimaru, as well as Directors Isaac Lagat, Irene Malel, and Margaret Aiyabei, all of whom contributed to the discussions.
