Two suspects, a man and a woman, have been arrested in Nyahururu and Olo-Joro Orok areas in connection with a series of livestock thefts.
The arrests followed an operation initiated by local residents who have been alarmed by the increasing number of theft cases in the region.
The male suspect, 24 years old, was apprehended by residents from Huhoin village while on patrol. He was spotted attempting to break into a neighboring home with the intention of stealing livestock.
James Wambugu, a local resident, explained, “We saw the suspects aiming to enter one of the houses in our neighborhood, and we noticed they wanted to steal the livestock.”
Following the man’s arrest, he directed residents to Subukia, where the woman, also allegedly involved in the thefts, was subsequently apprehended.
The victims were taken to Losagwa Police Station in Nyahururu sub-county, where police investigations are ongoing.
The residents have called for tighter security measures in the area, requesting increased police deployment to prevent further incidents.
Irine Wachuku, the MCA for Igwamiti Ward, echoed the concerns, stating that additional police officers should be assigned to Losagwa Police Station to enhance patrols and help track down suspects involved in livestock theft.
The local community hopes that these efforts will help curb the rising incidents of theft and bring more security to their homes.
