Uasin Gishu CEC for Lands to Be Arraigned Over Extortion Allegations
. “The Commission has received multiple allegations that the CEC Member has been demanding bribes ranging from Kes 100,000 to Kes 300,000 to facilitate land services,” said Mr. Ngumbi.

Uasin Gishu County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Lands, Physical Planning, and Housing, Ms. Janet Kosgey, will be arraigned in court following her arrest by officers from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) on allegations of extorting money from members of the public seeking land-related services.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi, speaking from Mombasa on Thursday, confirmed the arrest, which took place on Wednesday evening. “The Commission has received multiple allegations that the CEC Member has been demanding bribes ranging from Kes 100,000 to Kes 300,000 to facilitate land services,” said Mr. Ngumbi.
Investigations revealed that Ms. Kosgey allegedly required service seekers to interact with her directly and demanded facilitation fees to process or approve documents, even in cases where her office had no official role.
At the time of her arrest, Ms. Kosgey had reportedly demanded Kes 120,000 to sign a land lease document. She was apprehended after receiving a partial payment of Kes 50,000.
During the arrest, two County Askaris—Sgt. Geoffrey Lang’at and Sgt. Jeremiah Kipkemoi—attempted to obstruct the EACC officers by attacking them. The officers were subdued and arrested for obstruction of lawful duty under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
The three suspects were held at Eldoret Central Police Station on Wednesday night before being transferred to the EACC North Rift Regional Office for further processing and statement recording. They were later released on police bond pending arraignment.
“The suspects, who were released on police bond of Ksh 100,000 on Friday, are awaiting arraignment in court,” said Mr. Ngumbi. “This arrest is part of ongoing investigations into broader public complaints of extortion in the provision of land services in Uasin Gishu County. The Commission remains committed to ensuring accountability and integrity in public service.”
The suspects are expected to face charges upon the completion of investigations.
