President William Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to digital transformation as a means to enhance governance, streamline public services, and foster transparency.
Speaking during the launch of the Pan-African Greentech Hub – Timbuktoo at Konza Technopolis in Makueni County, the President emphasized the pivotal role technology plays in addressing the challenges facing the country and the African continent.
“There lies immense value in digital transformation,” said Ruto. “The digitisation of government services has streamlined public service delivery, checked corruption, and furthered transparency. We will continue tapping into sustainable, ground-breaking, and human-centered technology to fashion solutions to the challenges we face.”
The Greentech Hub is set to be a regional innovation center, focusing on sustainable technology and advancing Africa’s position in the global digital economy.
It will support research, training, and the development of cutting-edge solutions in artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and digital infrastructure.
The hub’s establishment aligns with Kenya’s broader strategy of leveraging technology to drive economic growth and improve governance.
Since the inauguration of the enhanced eCitizen platform earlier this year, more than 5,000 government services are now accessible online, significantly reducing inefficiencies in service delivery.
The President noted that Konza Technopolis is central to Kenya’s digital transformation agenda. As a flagship project, it embodies the government’s vision of creating a thriving ecosystem for technology, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
The facility will foster collaboration among stakeholders across the public and private sectors, universities, and international organizations.
President Ruto’s government has also prioritized human-centered technological solutions, ensuring that advancements in digital systems address everyday needs. Key areas include improving access to public services, expanding affordable internet coverage, and promoting technology-driven job creation, especially for the youth.
The Pan-African Greentech Hub represents a bold step in positioning Kenya as a leader in digital transformation across Africa.
With Timbuktoo at its core, Kenya is poised to be a center for sustainable innovation, contributing to a future where technology drives meaningful change for its citizens and the continent at large.
As the President concluded, he urged continued support for innovative initiatives that harness Africa’s potential, stating, “Technology is our tool to reimagine governance, enhance lives, and build a future defined by progress and sustainability.”
