President William Ruto has continued his sharp criticism of the United Opposition, accusing them of taking advantage of Raphael Tuju’s current challenges for their own political gain. During a roadside rally in Migori, the Head of State accused opposition leaders of using Tuju’s situation to maintain their political standing instead of providing him with actual support.
Ruto argued that Tuju is being misled at a time when he is dealing with a sensitive legal matter. The President stated that certain opposition members have promoted activities which only make Tuju’s situation worse instead of helping him to solve his problems. He stressed that what Tuju truly needs are sincere friends and advisors who can guide him toward stability and recovery, not individuals seeking attention through his difficulties.
Ruto accused Tuju of being manipulated into executing a kidnapping scheme which he described as dangerous since it would put lives in danger. He criticized those he described as opportunists, saying they were attempting to benefit from Tuju’s misfortune for political visibility. The President asserted that Tuju should concentrate on safeguarding his assets while he strategizes his upcoming actions without interference from his selfishness.
The opposition needs to stop dreaming about removing him from office during the upcoming 2027 General Election according to President. He questioned their leadership capabilities, asserting that they lack the vision and competence needed to govern the country. Ruto described the opposition as ineffective and promised that his administration would continue to expose what he termed as their shortcomings.
Tuju faces legal problems after his police arrest earlier this week. Authorities claim that he staged his abduction on March 21, an incident that reportedly caused unnecessary alarm. The Directorate of Criminal Investigations found Tuju at his home while he was supposedly missing through an abduction.
He will face charges for providing false information to a public officer according to Section 129(a) of the Penal Code which defines this crime. The defense team has obtained documents from the prosecution which show that The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions approved all legal charges thus allowing the case to proceed to court.
Tuju has filed a bail application with the High Court because he believes that police will arrest him while he faces threats of police harassment. He claims in his application that unidentified drivers chased him through the streets which forced him to leave his vehicle and hide in a safe spot.
