Prominent Leaders Mourn Former MCA Lucy Ng’endo Chomba
“This is a great loss to our family,” said Lenny Chomba, representing the family. “Lucy was in good health two days ago,” he recounted, detailing their recent interaction at the Chomba barber shop. “Today, I received a call from her house help only to find her unresponsive.”
Former Huruma Ward MCA Lucy Ng’endo Chomba’s passing has cast a shadow over Eldoret. President William Ruto joined a chorus of leaders expressing their condolences to the bereaved family.
“This is a great loss to our family,” said Lenny Chomba, representing the family. “Lucy was in good health two days ago,” he recounted, detailing their recent interaction at the Chomba barber shop. “Today, I received a call from her house help only to find her unresponsive.”
In 2020 President Ruto, then Deputy President, attended the burial of her husband, Peter Kiiru Chomba, who also served as MCA for Huruma Ward ,where he urged Huruma residents to re-elect Hon Lucy in the By-elections .
“The president who condoled with Lucy’s family today is believed to have chatted with Lucy on Saturday during the Madaraka Day celebration,” a source revealed, “promising to secure her a job before the end of the year.”
Ms. Chomba’s dedication to public service was echoed by other leaders. “This is a great loss,” said Langas ward MCA Francis Muya . “Lucy will be remembered for fostering peace and cohesion and extending a helping hand to hundreds of street families in Eldoret.”
Langas Ward MCA and Huruma Ward MCA Wakili Kimani Wanjohi were among those who visited Ms. Chomba’s residence and later the Eldoret Hospital mortuary.
Ms. Chomba served a five-year term in the Uasin Gishu County Assembly from 2013-2017 as a nominated MCA under the Jubilee Party ticket and would later be elected in 2021 after the passing on of her husband. She lost in 2022 general Elections . Lenny Chomba urged the public “to avoid speculations around Hon. Lucy’s death and await a post mortem report and police investigations.”
Gladys Shollei, the Woman Representative for Uasin Gishu, expressed her condolences, stating, “In this time of sorrow, our hearts go out to the bereaved families. May they find solace and strength amidst their grief.”
Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina also shared his sympathies, remarking, “Losing loved ones is never easy, and we stand in solidarity with those who have lost family members. May they find peace in the memories they shared.
The family will begin burial preparations.
