President William Ruto has announced a significant investment of KSh 3 billion to connect over 35,000 households in Kakamega County to electricity.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader goal to achieve universal access to reliable and affordable power by 2030.

Speaking in Lukhumbi Village, Shinyalu, during the launch of the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project, President Ruto highlighted the transformative impact of this project.

He emphasized that the initiative aims to enhance livelihoods, stimulate business growth, and drive economic development in the region. “This is about transforming lives and boosting businesses to ensure our economic growth,” said the president.

During the event, a heartwarming moment unfolded as 50-year-old Rose Kharakha experienced the life-changing milestone of being connected to the electricity grid.

Her story exemplifies the profound impact the initiative is expected to have on families and communities across Kakamega County.

President Ruto was accompanied by several high-ranking officials, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, National Assembly Speaker Moses Masika Wetang’ula, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, and Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa.

Cabinet Secretaries, Members of Parliament, and Members of County Assemblies also attended the launch.

The Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project is a key component of the government’s agenda to expand access to power in rural and underserved areas.

By focusing on infrastructure development and energy accessibility, the project seeks to create an enabling environment for small businesses, education, and health services.

Addressing the residents of Shinyalu, President Ruto reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no Kenyan is left behind in the quest for development.

“Our aim is to make electricity affordable and accessible to every household, empowering communities and fostering sustainable development,” he stated.

The initiative comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to modernize Kenya’s energy sector. By connecting more households to the national grid, the administration aims to reduce reliance on traditional energy sources, promote environmental sustainability, and bridge the energy gap between urban and rural areas.

The event in Kakamega County underscores the government’s dedication to fostering regional development and improving the quality of life for all Kenyans.

As the country moves towards its 2030 development goals, projects like the Last Mile Electricity Connectivity Project serve as critical milestones in realizing a more inclusive and prosperous Kenya.
