President Launches Rural Electrification Projects in Uasin Gishu
The government has allocated KSh1.8 billion to connect 20,000 households to electricity across Uasin Gishu County over the next three years.
President William Ruto has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding electricity access to rural areas, unveiling a series of ambitious electrification projects that aim to transform lives and spur economic growth.
Mzee Simeon Nyango and Mama Salina Nyango are among the latest beneficiaries of the Rural Electrification Programme, which seeks to address energy needs in underserved regions.
The government has allocated KSh1.8 billion to connect 20,000 households to electricity across Uasin Gishu County over the next three years.
During a visit to Kesses, President Ruto officially launched the Cheboror Village Electrification Project. This initiative will bring power to 316 households in the area, marking a significant step toward reducing energy poverty in the county.
Speaking at the event, the President emphasized the critical role of electrification in enhancing the quality of life for rural communities.
“Electricity is not just about lighting homes; it powers businesses, enables learning, and improves healthcare. Our goal is to connect one million households to electricity within three years,” Ruto said.
The President was accompanied by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, who echoed the administration’s commitment to achieving universal energy access
Together, they addressed local residents, popularly known as wananchi, highlighting the broader vision of the government’s electrification agenda.
The KSh1.8 billion investment in Uasin Gishu forms part of a larger national program targeting energy accessibility.
The government’s strategic approach aligns with Kenya’s Vision 2030 goals of promoting industrialization and improving living standards.
Residents expressed optimism about the projects, citing the potential for increased business opportunities and improved educational outcomes.
“With electricity, my children can now study at night, and I can start a small business from home,” said Mama Salina, one of the beneficiaries.
The Rural Electrification Programme represents a key pillar of President Ruto’s administration, focusing on equitable development and the empowerment of marginalized communities.
