Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening bilateral relations with China, with a focus on infrastructure development, trade, investment, and joint efforts to combat climate change.

Speaking at State House in Nairobi, President William Ruto underscored the importance of cooperation between the two nations during a meeting with Guo Haiyan, the newly-appointed Chinese Ambassador to Kenya.

“Kenya will keep strengthening our cordial relations with China, focusing on infrastructure development, trade and investment, and collaborating in climate change mitigation,” President Ruto stated.

The reception of the ambassador’s credentials marked a significant moment in Kenya-China relations, symbolizing the continuation of a partnership that has been instrumental in Kenya’s economic development.

Over the years, China has played a pivotal role in funding and constructing key infrastructure projects, including roads, railways, and energy plants.

President Ruto also expressed Kenya’s dedication to working with China under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), a platform that has fostered significant economic growth and mutual benefit between African countries and China.

He emphasized the need to accelerate these efforts to ensure that both nations continue to reap the rewards of their partnership.

“We will continue working together under the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to accelerate economic growth and mutual benefit for our two nations,” the President added.

Ambassador Guo Haiyan expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and reiterated China’s commitment to supporting Kenya’s development agenda. She highlighted the need for continued collaboration in areas such as technology transfer, agricultural development, and climate change resilience.

The meeting comes at a time when Kenya is seeking to expand its export base to China, particularly in agricultural products like tea, coffee, and avocados. Enhanced trade relations are expected to provide a significant boost to Kenya’s economy by creating new opportunities for farmers and businesses.

Moreover, the two nations are set to collaborate on climate change mitigation, an area of growing concern globally. By leveraging China’s technological expertise and Kenya’s renewable energy potential, the partnership aims to drive sustainable development while addressing environmental challenges.

President Ruto extended his best wishes to the new envoy, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to pursuing mutually beneficial cooperation with China. As the two nations strengthen their ties, the focus remains on fostering growth, resilience, and a shared vision for a prosperous future.
