Kenya and Haiti Commit to Enhanced Cooperation

Haiti’s Prime Minister, His Excellency Garry Conille, made a historic official visit to Kenya from October 11th to 12th, 2024, following an invitation from His Excellency William Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya.
This visit symbolizes a significant step forward in the bilateral relations between the two nations, highlighting their shared commitment to deepening cooperation and fostering unity.
The visit comes on the heels of President Ruto’s engagement with the Kenyan contingent of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) stationed in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The mission, under a United Nations Security Council mandate, was deployed to support peace and security efforts in the region. Both leaders reaffirmed their support for the mission, acknowledging its critical role in stabilizing Haiti.
Notable achievements include the successful recapture of strategic locations such as the General Hospital, the National Palace, and the Port, which had been under the control of destabilizing elements.
The reopening of Haiti’s airport and key roads, including the route to Ganthier town, marked the restoration of critical infrastructure and services.
In their discussions, President Ruto and Prime Minister Conille explored avenues for enhanced collaboration on a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues.
The leaders emphasized the importance of continued international support for the MSSM, urging the global community to contribute personnel, logistical aid, and financial resources through the United Nations Trust Fund.
The two leaders also highlighted the deep historical ties between Kenya and Haiti, recognizing their potential to lead political, economic, and social cooperation efforts.
They affirmed their commitment to further strengthen relations between the African Union and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) as part of a broader push for South-South Cooperation.
On the global stage, President Ruto and Prime Minister Conille reiterated their shared commitment to promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.
They called for reforms to global governance institutions to better reflect current geopolitical realities, particularly in addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change, food security, and economic equity.
The visit concluded with both leaders expressing mutual appreciation and an invitation for further diplomatic engagements.
