President William Ruto has called upon the international community to increase its support for the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) aimed at restoring peace and stability in Haiti.

During a joint press briefing with Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto emphasized the urgency for global partners to contribute more personnel, logistical support, and financial resources to ensure the success and sustainability of the mission.

Kenya has been a leading advocate for international assistance in addressing Haiti’s ongoing crisis.

The MSSM, a UN-sanctioned operation, seeks to restore order in the Caribbean nation, which has been grappling with political instability, gang violence, and a deteriorating humanitarian situation.

Speaking alongside Prime Minister Conille, Ruto stressed that a peaceful and secure Haiti is critical, not just for the region but for global security, calling on world leaders to act swiftly and decisively.

“Kenya and Haiti stand united in imploring the international community to rally behind the Multinational Security Support Mission. For a peaceful, stable, and secure Haiti, our global partners must also accelerate their contribution to personnel, logistics, and finances to sustain and expand the mission,” said Ruto.

Kenya’s pledge to lead the MSSM by sending police officers to help restore order in Haiti has been met with widespread international approval.

The mission is expected to provide security and humanitarian assistance, with Kenya offering more than 1,000 officers to spearhead the efforts, as other nations are encouraged to participate.

During a bilateral meeting held earlier between the two leaders, discussions centered around ways to strengthen tourism and foster closer ties between Kenya and Haiti.

Ruto and Conille explored practical measures to boost people-to-people relations and economic cooperation, which could help build stronger cultural and diplomatic links between the two countries.

The two leaders also discussed opportunities for both nations to collaborate in various sectors, particularly in promoting sustainable tourism.

Haiti, known for its rich culture and historical significance, has the potential to attract tourists globally, and Kenya, as one of Africa’s leading tourist destinations, could share best practices in developing a robust tourism industry.

This high-level meeting signifies Kenya’s growing role in global diplomacy, particularly in peace-building and humanitarian interventions.

Kenya’s commitment to Haiti underscores the nation’s dedication to contributing to global security and fostering meaningful international partnerships.
