Haki Africa castigates Uasin Gishu top leaders over killings!
-Haki Africa has called on internal security minister Kithure Kindiki to institute investigations-
Haki Africa, a human right organization has castigated Uasin Gishu county commissioner Dr Eddyson Nyale and Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii over gross human right violations and deaths meted out on Eldoret street families.
Speaking in Eldoret,Haki Africa executive director Hussein Khalid noted that atrocities against street families in Eldoret are purportedly committed by Uasin Gishu county enforcement officers
“Haki Africa has documented and continues to investigate deaths and human right violations against street families in Eldoret,we want to remind the Uasin Gishu Governor and County Commissioner that street families are Kenyans too and well protected under the bill of rights ,we will make sure street families get justice like any other Kenyan “He assured.
It is the duty of the governor and the county commissioner to ensure the rule of law is observed, those found culpable to such deaths will surely face the law over the extra judicial cases .He added
Kimutai Kirui of the Centre against torture revealed at least three street connected youth had been killed with at least ten street children missing under unclear circumstances
“Survivors of horrific torture from the county enforcement officers have labeled the Eldoret Rescue Centre as “shakahola”due to inhuman treatment they have had to endure in the hands of enforcement officers”
Many have been targeted for not being locals we demand investigations against specific enforcement officers who have been involved in the brutal murder and human right abuses against street families.He added
Haki Africa has called on internal security minister Kithure Kindiki to institute investigations while calling upon IPOA to have an expanded mandate that would investigate county enforcement officers over their excesses and human right violations.
However the county Commissioner has assured Residents that his office is independent of any political interference and will continue to discharge its duties as stipulated by the law.
Uasin Gishu Governor has insisted Eldoret rescue centre remains a safe home for street children in need of care and support.
