Governor Johnson Sakaja of Nairobi County has signed the budget for the 2024/2025 financial year, marking the highest budget ever approved by the county government.

The budget, amounting to Ksh 43.56 billion for development projects, was presented to the Nairobi County Assembly by the County Executive Committee Member, Mr. Charles Kerich. The national government is projected to transfer Ksh 22.5 billion to Nairobi County, which includes a total projected own-source revenue of Ksh 20.6 billion and Ksh 1 billion for the Facilities Improvement Fund.

Kerich has earmarked Ksh 287 million for the completion of the construction of borough offices, sub-county, and ward offices, aimed at bringing services closer to the people.

Additionally, Ksh 200 million has been allocated to the health sector, which includes affordable healthcare and adequate non-pharmaceutical supplies for county health facilities. Furthermore, Ksh 1 billion has been set aside for the construction, equipping, and rehabilitation of centers.

One of Governor Sakaja’s key projects, the school feeding program, has been allocated Ksh 800 million. “This program will improve the nutritional status of learners and encourage students to attend school, leading to increased enrollment, performance, and transition to higher levels of education. The county targets to feed more than 250,000 children,” Kerich said.

The county has also allocated Ksh 7 million to each ward and Ksh 857 million for student bursaries.

Additionally, the county has requested the Members of the County Assembly to approve Ksh 120 million for the construction of fire stations in Kangemi, Gikomba, and Jamhuri.
