The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has launched a new initiative aimed at improving refereeing standards by focusing on fitness and endurance.
As part of this effort, FKF is conducting a three-day Physical Endurance Test (PET) for Division One referees at Kipchoge Keino Stadium in Eldoret.
The PET program is designed to ensure that referees are physically equipped to handle the demands of high-intensity football matches.
Recognizing that officiating is not just about making the right decisions but also about keeping up with the fast pace of the game, FKF has prioritized referee fitness as a key component of match performance.
FKF President Hussein Mohammed emphasized the importance of peak physical fitness for referees, stating, “Referees must be in top shape to make the right calls. Physical endurance is critical to match performance, and this program is essential in ensuring our officials are fully prepared for the challenges of officiating.”
Caleb Amwayi, the National Referees Committee Chairman, echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of continuous training and fitness assessments.
He noted that the PET program is part of FKF’s broader efforts to enhance officiating integrity and ensure fair play across all levels of Kenyan football.
By investing in referee fitness and preparedness, FKF aims to minimize officiating errors, improve match control, and align local refereeing standards with global best practices.
This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to the overall quality of officiating in Kenya’s football leagues.
“We are going back to the basics to strengthen officiating standards and improve referee performance. With the unwavering support of FKF NEC and the president, we are confident in delivering quality officiating across our leagues,” Amwayi stated.
The PET program marks a crucial step in FKF’s ongoing efforts to elevate the standards of refereeing in Kenyan football.
By ensuring that referees are physically fit and well-prepared, FKF is not only improving match officiating but also reinforcing the credibility and professionalism of the sport in the country.
