Journalists in Eldoret held a protest to oppose police brutality during recent anti-government demonstrations. Over 100 journalists marched from Central Police Station to the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner’s Office, where they presented their petition.

James Gitaka, a journalist with Milele FM, stated, “We are just messengers out in the field to inform the public of what is going on.”

Last week, a journalist in Nakuru was beaten by police while covering a protest. Additionally, Gitaka reported that veteran journalist Macharia Gaitho was kidnapped by plainclothes police officers while he was heading to town.

Titus Ominde, a journalist with Nation Media, expressed frustration that former colleagues now in parliament have failed to address the issue of journalists’ safety and security. He commended Muthoni Wa Gachomba for consistently standing up for journalists who face harassment by security officers while reporting in the field.
