TATU Urges Kisumu Residents to Join September Intake After Low Local Enrolment

The African Talent University (TATU) has appealed to residents of Kisumu County to take advantage of the institution’s September intake, following low enrolment of students from the region during its inaugural admission.
The university’s Founder and Sponsor, Prof. Hamphery Obura, said many students from Kisumu missed the first intake because they lacked adequate information about the institution and the programmes it offers.
Prof. Obura said the university received government accreditation in April this year and has since been included on the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) placement portal. The development enables students admitted to the university to apply for funding through the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).
He said TATU enrolled 215 students during the May intake, bringing the institution’s current student population to 398.
However, Prof. Obura noted that more than 90 per cent of the students admitted during the first intake came from outside Kisumu County, which he attributed to limited awareness of the university among local residents.

To increase awareness, the university will hold a career open day on August 14, bringing together students, parents and government officials. The event will provide information on KUCCPS placement, HELB applications and the academic programmes offered at the institution.
Prof. Obura said the university’s model combines talent-based, experiential and academic learning, with the aim of helping students identify, nurture and develop their skills and abilities.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Dr. Redemter Yeda said she is committed to positioning the university for greater growth by strengthening its three learning approaches.
“I am committed to taking this university to greater heights by strengthening our three modes of learning. We invite students from Kisumu and beyond to join us and grow their talents and careers,” said Dr. Yeda.
She encouraged students from the Luo community and other parts of the country to apply for admission during the September intake and take advantage of the opportunities offered by the institution.
