Education experts and industry leaders are calling on the government to adopt comprehensive strategies to ensure all students have access to coding and robotics education. Speaking at Dyron Howel School in Eldoret, stakeholders emphasized that integrating technology into the curriculum is crucial for equipping students with problem-solving, critical thinking, and collaborative skills—key drivers of innovation and job creation.

Technology as a Solution to Unemployment

With youth unemployment a growing concern, experts argue that early exposure to technology is key to future job opportunities. They urged the government to start integrating coding and robotics at the primary and secondary school levels, ensuring that students graduate with essential digital skills.

“We must ensure that every student, regardless of the school they attend, acquires technological skills. This is not just for their personal benefit but also for the country’s economic growth. We need to prepare a generation that can compete in the global job market,” said John’s Letter, CEO of Digiskool Smart Solutions.

Letter further emphasized the urgent need for government intervention, highlighting that schools require modern tools and well-trained teachers to deliver quality technology-based lessons.

“The future of education is digital. Schools must be equipped with modern learning tools, and teachers must be trained to deliver tech-driven lessons. Without such efforts, many students will be left behind in an increasingly technology-dependent world,” he added.

Bridging the Digital Divide in Public Schools

While some private institutions have embraced technology-driven education, public schools continue to struggle with inadequate resources, outdated infrastructure, and a lack of skilled instructors. Stakeholders stressed the need for equitable access to digital education to prevent widening the gap between students in well-funded and under-resourced schools.

“It is crucial that public schools receive the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure that no student is left behind in this digital transformation,” stated Paul Kamau, a technology teacher.

Mark Suvai, Principal of Dyron Howel School, echoed similar sentiments, stressing that technology education must be a priority, not an option.

“The future of employment is undeniably technology-driven. As educators, it is our responsibility to equip students with the digital knowledge and skills they need to thrive in today’s world,” he said.

Collaboration is Key

Stakeholders called for a joint effort between the government, education partners, and the private sector to integrate technology education into the national curriculum. They emphasized that a holistic approach is needed to prepare students for both current and future job opportunities.
