The Uasin Gishu Journalists Association (UJA) on 22nd June 2026 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Sayare Radio, Television Network (RTVN) aimed at enhancing media training, content development, and professional exposure for upcoming journalists in the North Rift region.
The agreement establishes a structured collaboration framework between the two institutions to facilitate the production and contribution of news stories, radio feature stories, and television documentaries by journalists and media students affiliated with UJA. The content will be aired and published through Sayare RTVN platforms.
The partnership is intended to promote professional growth, skills development, and media excellence among emerging journalists, while also enabling Sayare RTVN to access credible, diverse, and high-quality journalistic content from the region.
The MoU was signed by James Gitaka, Chairperson of the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association and Director of the Eldoret Media Hub, on behalf of UJA and the media hub. Sayare RTVN was represented by General Manager Jocelyn Kalya.
Also present during the signing ceremony were senior Sayare RTVN editors and departmental heads, including Kimeli, Head of Radio and News, and Ezra, Head of Television.
The Uasin Gishu Journalists Association leadership team was also in attendance, led by Vice Chair Edmond Kipngeno, alongside executive members Elvis Wasike and Naomi Cheruiyot.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Gitaka described the partnership as a major milestone in bridging the gap between journalism training and newsroom practice.
“This collaboration is critical in ensuring that young and upcoming journalists are not only trained but also actively involved in real reporting and content production. It gives them a platform to sharpen their skills while contributing meaningful stories to the public,” said Gitaka.
He further noted that the initiative will strengthen the quality of local storytelling and expand opportunities for media students attached to the Eldoret Media Hub.
The Eldoret Media Hub, which operates under the Uasin Gishu Journalists Association and is affiliated with the Media Council of Kenya, provides attachment opportunities for media and communication students as well as a structured working environment for practicing journalists in the county.
The hub has in recent years positioned itself as a key training and incubation centre for journalists in the North Rift, offering mentorship and practical exposure across different media platforms.
Under the new partnership, participants will contribute content across key editorial areas including radio news features, television documentaries, and thematic reporting in health, business, agriculture, and sports.
The MoU comes at a time when the organization has continued to enhance its partnerships and collaborations by signing similar agreements with other institutions, including Moi University, the Eldoret National Polytechnic, University of Eldoret, and Eldoret College of Professional Studies (ECPS).
Sayare RTVN General Manager Jocelyn Kalya welcomed the agreement, terming it a timely initiative that will enrich programming and strengthen local content production.
“This partnership will help us access quality local stories while also giving young journalists a platform to grow within the industry,” she said.
The collaboration is expected to boost the availability of high-quality local content while creating structured pathways for emerging journalists to transition into mainstream media practice.
The Uasin Gishu Journalists Association has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting media professionalism, mentorship, and collaboration with industry stakeholders to strengthen journalism practice in the region.
