Cabinet Secretary for Environment and Forestry Aden Duale has issued a stern rebuke to leaders opposing the government’s Affordable Housing Program, describing their actions as hypocritical and detrimental to Kenya’s progress.

Speaking at a public event, Duale emphasized the importance of unity in supporting government initiatives designed for the greater good of the people.

“Leaders, whether in government or not, must unequivocally commit to supporting government policies, programs, and projects that are designed for the greater good of the people,” Duale stated. “The Affordable Housing Program is a transformative initiative aimed at uplifting ordinary Kenyans by providing them with access to decent homes and creating much-needed job opportunities.”

The Affordable Housing Program, a flagship project under President William Ruto’s administration, seeks to address Kenya’s housing deficit while generating employment for thousands of citizens.

Duale stressed that access to decent housing is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of human dignity. However, he expressed disappointment at individuals who once championed the program but are now opposing it.

“It is both hypocritical and disheartening to see individuals who once supported this very program now standing in opposition to it,” Duale said. “By opposing the Affordable Housing Program, they are not only undermining the progress of this nation but also denying countless Kenyans the chance to improve their lives. Their actions reveal a blatant disregard for the welfare of the very people they claim to represent.”

Duale vowed to hold detractors accountable, warning that the government would not remain silent in the face of what he termed as betrayal.

“We will call out these detractors and hold them accountable for their attempts to obstruct a program that promises hope, dignity, and opportunity for millions of Kenyans,” he declared.

The Cabinet Secretary called for an end to political games, urging leaders to prioritize the needs of the people. “The time for political games is over; the people’s needs must come first,” he said. “Let it be known, those who stand against this program are standing against the future of Kenya itself.”

Duale’s remarks come amid growing debates over the implementation and funding of the Affordable Housing Program.

Despite the criticism, the government remains steadfast in its commitment to delivering affordable homes and creating jobs, reaffirming its dedication to building a better future for all Kenyans.

As the nation watches, the call for unity and support for transformative initiatives like the Affordable Housing Program underscores the need for collective effort in addressing Kenya’s most pressing challenges.
