Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has emphasized the importance of innovation and learning from global best practices to address Kenya’s pressing challenges.

Speaking after a recent tour of Egypt alongside President William Ruto, Mudavadi highlighted key takeaways from their visits to Gypto Pharma, a leading pharmaceutical company in the Middle East, and the New Capital Gardens City in Cairo, where 1.027 million housing units have been completed in less than four years.

The tour, aimed at exploring Egypt’s strides in Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and affordable housing, provided valuable insights for Kenya’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare and housing for its citizens.

Gypto Pharma’s advancements in the pharmaceutical sector showcased how innovation and investment can strengthen healthcare systems, a critical pillar of Kenya’s UHC agenda.

Meanwhile, the New Capital Gardens City project demonstrated the potential for rapid, large-scale housing solutions to address urban housing shortages.

“Pushing boundaries and embracing innovation is essential to overcoming today’s challenges and building a brighter future,” Mudavadi stated. “Egypt’s progress in healthcare and housing has reinforced our resolve to drive similar transformative solutions for Kenya.”

Kenya’s UHC program, a flagship initiative under President Ruto’s administration, seeks to ensure all citizens have access to quality healthcare without financial hardship.

The visit to Gypto Pharma offered practical lessons on strengthening local pharmaceutical production and distribution, which could reduce Kenya’s reliance on imported medicines and lower healthcare costs.

On the housing front, the New Capital Gardens City project served as a model for Kenya’s affordable housing agenda. With over a million housing units delivered in record time, the project highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships and efficient planning in addressing housing deficits.

Kenya’s affordable housing program aims to provide decent and affordable homes for low- and middle-income citizens, while also creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.

Mudavadi reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring quality healthcare and dignified housing for all Kenyans. “These are not just projects; they are lifelines that will transform lives and uplift communities,” he said.

As Kenya continues to draw inspiration from global successes, the lessons from Egypt are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping policies and strategies to achieve the country’s development goals.

With innovation and determination, Kenya is steadily working toward a future where every citizen has access to essential services and opportunities for a better life.
