CS William Kabogo Criticizes Gachagua, Defends Mt. Kenya’s Support for President Ruto
“The noise that you are hearing in Mt. Kenya directed at the President will soon come to an end. The region has no problem with the government,”

Cabinet Secretary for Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy, William Kabogo, has criticized former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for allegedly misleading the people of the Mt. Kenya region into political isolation.
Speaking in Uasin Gishu County, President William Ruto’s political stronghold, Kabogo dismissed claims that the region had shifted its support away from the Head of State. “The noise that you are hearing in Mt. Kenya directed at the President will soon come to an end. The region has no problem with the government,” he asserted.
The CS condemned the ongoing criticism by some politicians from the Mt. Kenya region, accusing them of attempting to alienate the area from the rest of the nation. He reaffirmed his commitment to counter such narratives, stating, “I will soon make a tour of the region to deliver the President’s greetings, and I am optimistic they will be well received.”
Kabogo made the remarks at Eldoret Sports Club during the Annual Data Privacy Conference 2025, themed “Safeguarding Personal Data to Spur Digital Transformation and Economic Development.” The event was attended by Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii, and County Commissioner Eddyson Nyale.
In his address, Kabogo emphasized the government’s dedication to advancing digital infrastructure across the country while cautioning youth against the misuse of social media. He expressed concern over a growing trend where disgruntled individuals circulate doctored images of public figures in coffins. “This trend is disturbing and derogatory to the targeted leaders. I urge our youth to be responsible when using the digital space and to refrain from such acts,” Kabogo said.
Despite the challenges of digital space misuse, Kabogo reassured the public that the government has no intention of shutting down online platforms. “We will not shut down digital platforms because of abuse, but I call on our youth to use these spaces responsibly,” he added.
Earlier in the day, the Cabinet Secretary officiated the opening of a regional Data Protection Office in Eldoret, which will serve the North Rift region. The establishment underscores the government’s commitment to safeguarding personal data and promoting digital transformation in Kenya.
