Boda Boda Riders Mobilized for Road Safety and Security Outreach in Uasin Gishu
DCI officers engage with boda boda riders at the Eldoret Central Police Station, fostering collaboration on road safety and community security
In a bid to bolster road safety and community security, hundreds of boda boda riders from across Uasin Gishu County converged at the Eldoret Central Police Station on Saturday for a sensitization session held at the station by the National Police Service (NPS) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The engagement, held on the sidelines of the Eldoret National Show, brought together riders from all sub-counties in Uasin Gishu for a comprehensive session on safety practices and community policing.
“We are urging boda boda riders to adhere to traffic regulations, including wearing helmets and reflective jackets, and avoiding riding under the influence of alcohol,” said Dorothy Migarusha, NPS Deputy Spokesperson. “By doing so, we can significantly reduce road accidents and save lives.”

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 356 boda boda riders lost their lives in road accidents in 2024, with 1,166 motorcyclists killed and 2,618 seriously injured. Pillion passengers were also affected, with 421 killed and 1,719 gravely injured.
The police emphasized the critical role boda boda riders can play in enhancing community security, encouraging them to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities or crimes within their areas of operation.
“Boda boda riders are the eyes and ears of our communities,” said Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi. “We urge them to work closely with law enforcement to promote a safer society.”
The outreach highlighted ongoing modernisation efforts within the police service, including the rollout of a Digital Occurrence Book (OB) system designed to improve efficiency, transparency, and service delivery.
To support both safety and community reporting efforts, the NPS distributed 100 “Fichua Kwa DCI” branded reflective jackets to boda boda riders.
