Cabinet Secretary for Health, Aden Duale, had the distinguished honor of representing President William Ruto at the Club de Madrid Annual Policy Dialogue 2025, held at the United Nations Headquarters in Nairobi.
The high-profile two-day conference, themed “Driving Sustainable Futures for All,” brings together global leaders to discuss innovative strategies for Financing Sustainable Development.
In his keynote address, Duale reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to inclusive and forward-thinking financial strategies, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive debt relief and prevention framework to help unlock essential resources for sustainable economic growth across Africa.
He highlighted the urgent need for financial solutions that not only ease existing debt burdens but also prevent future financial crises, ensuring long-term economic stability across the continent.
“As a country, we believe in fostering innovative financial mechanisms that promote inclusive and sustainable growth,” Duale stated. “Debt relief and structured financing strategies are crucial in enabling African nations to invest in development projects without falling into financial distress.”
The conference has attracted several notable dignitaries, including H.E. Danilo Turk, former President of Slovenia and the current President of Club de Madrid, Zainab Bangura, UN Director-General in Nairobi, Dr. Korir Sing’oei, Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs, and Ali Mohammed, Kenya’s Special Climate Change Envoy.
The discussions at the forum are expected to shape policy recommendations on global financing models, focusing on climate resilience, economic growth, and social equity.
