Parliament is set to begin the vetting process for Cabinet Secretary nominees Geoffrey Ruku (Public Service) and Hanna Cheptumo (Gender) on April 14, 2025.

The two were among the recent Cabinet changes made by President William Ruto.

According to Samuel Njoroge, the Clerk of the National Assembly, the vetting will be conducted by the Committee on Appointments, which will later present its findings to Parliament for approval.

“The appointed committee is mandated to review the nominees and provide feedback to the House,” Njoroge stated in his official notice.

Geoffrey Ruku, currently serving as the Mbeere Member of Parliament, has been nominated to replace Justin Muturi as Public Service Cabinet Secretary. His vetting session is scheduled for 2:00 PM.

Meanwhile, Hanna Cheptumo, the widow of the late Baringo Senator William Cheptumo, will undergo vetting at 4:00 PM for the newly created Gender Cabinet Secretary position.

As part of the vetting process, the nominees are required to submit their academic certificates and clearance documents from various government institutions.

These include the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Commission for University Education (CUE), and Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).

Additionally, the public has been invited to submit views and comments regarding the nominees’ suitability for office. The deadline for public participation is April 10, 2025.

The upcoming vetting process is expected to be closely monitored, as Parliament evaluates the nominees’ qualifications, integrity, and ability to serve in their respective dockets.
