National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has urged Kenyans to disregard what he termed the opposition’s desperate attempts to tarnish President William Ruto’s administration and undermine the government’s development agenda.

Speaking to the Mukothima Primary School in Tharaka Constituency during a women’s empowerment forum organized by area MP George Murugara, Wetang’ula criticized the opposition for selling negativity even as the government’s concrete developments were being realized across the nation.

According to the Speaker, President Ruto’s government has made giant strides in Kenya’s development through its flagship affordable housing, road network, and health reforms under the Social Health Authority (SHA). “This government has started projects in every region of the nation. From housing to the revolution in healthcare, there is development everywhere,” he remarked amidst applause from the audience.

He observed that the economy of Kenya was slowly recovering, pointing out the strengthening of the shilling from KSh160 to KSh128 against the dollar as a result of good leadership and effective economic policies. “Such an economic recovery does not just happen—it is a result of concerted and strategic leadership,” Wetang’ula emphasized.

The Speaker took a swipe at the opposition, accusing it of engaging in vintage politics founded on insults, tribalism, and negativism. “When you ask them to present to you their plan, they tell you ‘Ruto must go.’ That is not leadership—it’s noise. Kenya cannot be governed by bitterness and anger,” he said.

Wetang’ula urged the people of Tharaka to wholly back President Ruto’s 2027 re-election to protect the already established development, cautioning that polarized politics had the potential to destabilize the country and undermine its development.

He also commended Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki, describing him as a leader who is principled and disciplined, humble, and integrity incarnate. “Prof. Kindiki is the embodiment of a leader who respects others, doesn’t use abusive language, and is committed to his job. He’s a role model for the next generation of leaders,” said Wetang’ula.

Accompanying the Speaker was Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who encouraged the youth across the country to register as voters ahead of the 2027 General Election. “If you’ve turned 18 and haven’t registered, you’ve given up your voice. Your vote is your power—use it to secure your future,” he urged, adding that parents should ensure their children participate in voter registration as a mark of responsibility.

Ichung’wah also cautioned citizens against being misdirected by the opposition’s divisive rhetoric, holding that Kenya needs unity and not political hostility. “The opposition has a right to criticize, but what they offer is hate and violence and not solutions,” he said.

The other leaders present, who addressed the meeting, including Kitutu Chache North MP Japheth Nyakundi and Taita Taveta MP Victor Bwire, also reiterated their support for Deputy President Kindiki, with Bwire declaring, “We will re-elect President Ruto in 2027, and come 2032, we shall support Prof. Kindiki.”

Wetang’ula concluded by assuring locals that the government would not cease from rolling out empowerment programs in the entire region, and that physical development would one day silence propaganda. “We will return with additional programs because, at the end of the day, actions speak louder than words,” he said.
