Health Unveils Key Healthcare Initiatives in Uasin Gishu

The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, alongside Uasin Gishu Governor H.E. Jonathan Bii, visited Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital to demonstrate the government’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Located along the high-traffic Eldoret-Nakuru Highway, the hospital is set to be upgraded into a fully operational Trauma Centre, addressing the growing demand for emergency medical services in an area prone to road accidents.
During her visit, Dr. Barasa engaged with healthcare professionals and local residents, reaffirming the government’s focus on expanding access to quality healthcare.
She emphasized that the facility’s receipt of Social Health Authority (SHA) reimbursements would ensure the hospital has sufficient resources to fulfill its mission.
“This Trauma Centre will revolutionize emergency medical care in the region, potentially saving many lives by offering timely, specialized treatment,” Dr. Barasa remarked.
The Cabinet Secretary also spearheaded an SHA registration campaign, highlighting the government’s efforts to expand universal health coverage by removing financial barriers to healthcare.
Through this initiative, the government strives to make medical care a right for all citizens.
Governor Jonathan Bii praised the national government’s support for the county’s healthcare system, stressing the importance of collaboration between county and national governments in achieving sustainable healthcare development.
“This partnership is essential to ensuring that every resident of Uasin Gishu has access to quality healthcare services,” Governor Bii noted.
Dr. Barasa’s visit also included a review of other healthcare facilities in the county, ensuring that progress continues and identifying areas for further improvement.
The commitment to field visits and stakeholder engagement reflects the government’s approach to tackling healthcare challenges from the ground up.
As the transformation of Burnt Forest Sub-County Hospital moves ahead, the region is poised to benefit from strengthened healthcare infrastructure, aligning with the government’s broader vision to enhance the national healthcare system.
