A section of youth in Kisumu have come out strongly to oppose ongoing calls for anti-government demonstrations, insisting that peace and dialogue are the only way forward.

Gathering at Jomo Kenyatta Grounds on Monday, the youth emphasized that past protests have only brought destruction, economic setbacks, and division among residents.

“We want peace, not chaos. Demonstrations have never helped us; they only leave our town in ruins,” said Brian Otieno, a local youth leader. “We are calling on our fellow youth to think critically and prioritize constructive engagement over street battles.”

The group said they are ready to engage leaders on development and job creation instead of being used as tools for political confrontation.

Their message comes amid rising political tension following opposition calls for nationwide protests against the high cost of living and governance issues. Kisumu, a known protest hotspot in past years, appears to be witnessing a shift in sentiment.

Security officials welcomed the youth’s stance, noting that maintaining peace is key to attracting investment and improving livelihoods in the region.
