A group of youth affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party gathered in Uasin Gishu to discuss pressing issues affecting them, notably the new university funding model.

The youth, drawn from all sub-counties of Uasin Gishu, expressed frustration with the new education policy, which they claim has left many unable to pay their school fees.

During the meeting in Uasin Gishu, UDA Secreatry-General Omar Hassan addressed the concerns, affirming that the issues raised were part of a broader national conversation on challenges facing the youth.

He highlighted the critical need for reform, particularly in education, agriculture, and healthcare, which have a direct impact on the livelihoods of young people across the country.

Omar indicated that he and other leaders plan to traverse various counties—including Machakos, Kisii, and parts of Northern Kenya—to meet with youth in town hall settings, gathering their feedback on these important topics.

The senator emphasized the significance of agriculture, calling it the backbone of Kenya’s economy.

He assured the youth that their feedback on issues such as universal healthcare and agricultural policy would be considered in ongoing discussions within the government.

On the topic of education, Omar referred to Moi University, noting its historical role in shaping leaders such as Cabinet Secretary for Interior Hon. Kithure Kindiki and Hon. Haroun Cheruyoit.

He confirmed that plans were underway to rescue the institution from its current financial struggles, drawing comparisons to the government’s intervention in saving Kenya Airways from collapse.

The youth present also voiced their concerns about corruption, calling for corrupt leaders to be held accountable.

They urged the judiciary to ensure justice prevails in ongoing legal cases involving political figures, specifically referencing a court case involving the Deputy President’s role.

The meeting concluded with optimism, as one youth from Eldoret announced his intention to vie for an elective seat in the upcoming general elections, a move that Senator Omar warmly endorsed as a sign of generational change in leadership.
