In a heartfelt appeal to Kenyans, former President Uhuru Kenyatta urged citizens and leaders alike to embrace unity, respect, and mutual understanding.

Speaking on November 16, 2024, Kenyatta emphasized the importance of prayer, harmony, and the eradication of tribalism as key ingredients for a prosperous and united nation.

Addressing concerns about the growing divisions within the country, Kenyatta called for a shift in mindset among both citizens and leaders.

“Let us pray for our country and let us pray for harmony between the leaders and the citizens,” he began. Highlighting the need to bridge the gap between the two, he stressed that mutual respect was the foundation of a thriving democracy.

The former head of state also tackled the persistent issue of tribalism, which continues to hamper Kenya’s socio-economic progress.

“Let us also stop tribalism and love each other. We are all Kenyans, and Kenya cannot be successful when people are insulting and not respecting each other,” he stated passionately.

Kenyatta’s message resonates with many, as tribal politics have often been a stumbling block to national cohesion.

Kenyatta further appealed to the nation’s leaders to lead by example, urging them to treat citizens with dignity and compassion.

“Leaders should also respect the citizens, and they will get back the respect,” he remarked, reminding those in positions of power that leadership is a responsibility to serve, not a platform for dominance or arrogance.

The speech comes at a time when Kenya faces significant challenges, including political tension, economic pressures, and social divides.

Kenyatta’s words seek to inspire a sense of collective responsibility and hope, urging Kenyans to put aside their differences for the greater good of the nation.

Throughout his presidency (2013-2022), Uhuru Kenyatta championed efforts to foster national unity, including his famous “Handshake” with opposition leader Raila Odinga in 2018, which sought to ease political divisions.

His latest remarks reinforce his enduring commitment to peace and cohesion in Kenya.

Kenyatta’s call to action has already sparked discussions across social and political platforms, with many applauding his plea for unity.

As the country reflects on his message, the hope remains that leaders and citizens alike will heed his advice, fostering a future built on respect, understanding, and collective progress.

In a nation as diverse as Kenya, Kenyatta’s reminder of shared identity and purpose is both timely and vital, urging Kenyans to focus on what unites them rather than what divides them.
