In a ceremonious event presided over by Justice Robert Wananda of the Eldoret High Court, Evans Kapkea was officially sworn in as Deputy Governor of Uasin Gishu County.

The event, held at the county headquarters, was notably missing regional parliamentary representatives, with Moiben MP Phylis Bartoo as the sole exception among Uasin Gishu legislators.

Kapkea, who formerly served as the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Tembelio Ward, was nominated for the position on August 21, 2024, following the resignation of his predecessor, Engineer John Barorot.

Barorot’s departure was reportedly due to a strained relationship with Governor Jonathan Bii after two years in office.

The former deputy had been absent from several key county functions, including the high-profile event elevating Eldoret municipality to city status, which was attended by national leaders including President William Ruto.

In his acceptance speech, Kapkea extended gratitude to Governor Bii, expressing his dedication to supporting the governor’s administration. “Your Excellency, let me thank you for selecting me as your principal assistant and for the confidence you’ve shown in me,” said Kapkea. “I promise to serve with loyalty and tackle any assignment with enthusiasm and commitment.”

Reflecting on his journey from MCA to Deputy Governor, Kapkea attributed his success to his faith, integrity, and resilience. “My elevation from an MCA to Deputy Governor is a testament that any child, regardless of their background, can achieve their dreams if they put God first,” he shared, visibly moved.

Governor Bii praised Kapkea’s commitment to the people of Tembelio Ward and expressed optimism about their future collaboration. “I have faith in my deputy. Together, we will work diligently to realize the ten-point agenda we pledged to the residents of Uasin Gishu during the last campaign,” Bii stated.

Kapkea’s inauguration marks a new chapter in Uasin Gishu’s leadership, with hopes that his experience and values will strengthen the county’s governance.
