Uasin Gishu:Illicit brew worth millions netted and destroyed,arrests made!

A Multi agency Team involving the National Police officers and the Uasin Gishu County enforcement officers, Thursday intensified a crackdown on illicit brew and contraband goods.
The operation led officers to Huruma Ward, where notorious Chang’aa and Kangara dens were invaded in Spain and King’ong’o areas of Turbo sub county.
According to the Turbo deputy County police commandant Christopher Wesonga and the Uasin Gishu County Director of Alcoholics Control Board Koiya Arap Maiyo, hundreds of litres of Chang’aa and Kangara Illicit brews were netted and destroyed,

“We have arrested two suspects in some of the dens within Spain ,unfortunately one notorious lady alias Nyalego managed to escape but we assure her she will be arrested and arraigned in Court ” Said the deputy police boss.
The officers who braved scathing attacks from rowdy youth involved in the brewing and sale of illicit alcohol were forced to fire tear gas as they destroyed the illicit liquor worth millions of shillings.
“No amount of intimidation or attack on the multi-agency team will stop this operation; we will camp within these estates until they are clean of the illicit trade” Assured Wekesa.
The County Director of Alcoholics Control Board Koiya Arap Maiyo,warned that the illegal trade had no room within the presidents backyard and that 20 percent of bars operating without licenses will be closed

“Illicit liquor is in a glut in this areas, some of the bars have been operating without licenses, we are coming for them, The Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii is keen to ensure county citizens are protected from sale of such liquor as well as protecting legitimate businesses” He Opined.
As of Yesterday over 20,000 litres of Chang’aa and 20,000 Litres of Kangara had been nabbed by the police and over 500 people arrested and arraigned in court.

Some have been charged as much as Sh3M with the Uasin Gishu county commander Benjamin Mwathi assuring of intensified crackdown within the six sub counties of Uasin Gishu.
