The County Government of Uasin Gishu has taken a significant step in promoting agricultural diversification by distributing more than 400 sachets of pyrethrum seeds to farmers in Eldoret and its surrounding areas.

According to the County Executive for Agriculture, Edward Sawe, this initiative aims to empower farmers by enhancing crop diversification. “This move will not only empower our farmers but will also facilitate the planting of 100 acres of land once propagation is complete,” Sawe stated.

The sachets have already been distributed in Languse, Tarakwa Ward, and Kesses Subcounty. Sawe further announced that an additional 800 sachets are set to be distributed in November, targeting a total of over 300 acres of land for pyrethrum cultivation.

In a show of commitment to the farmers, the County Executive Committee Member assured that through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KENTEGRA Biotechnology Holdings LLC, farmers will receive ongoing support from a KENTEGRA agronomist, ensuring expert guidance throughout their farming journey.

Tarakwa Ward Member of County Assembly, Hon. Thomas Yego, urged farmers to embrace this opportunity, highlighting the potential of pyrethrum farming to enhance livelihoods. “It’s time for our farmers to diversify and move beyond traditional cash crops like maize and wheat,” Yego emphasized.

Echoing this sentiment, Agriculture Chief Officer, Mr. Elphas Kesio, reiterated the county’s commitment to supporting the reintroduction of pyrethrum farming. “We are determined to help our residents cultivate crops that yield higher returns, ultimately improving their standard of living,” Kesio affirmed.
