Two Arrested After Deadly UDA Meeting Chaos in Embu

Two suspects have been arrested as detectives investigate the deadly disruption of a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) delegates’ meeting at Nembure Grounds in Embu County.
The incident occurred during a political gathering attended by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and several senior national and county government officials.
Tensions reportedly escalated at the venue, with groups of youths engaging police officers in running battles. The confrontation disrupted the meeting before security officers moved in to contain the situation.
One person was killed during the violence, while several police officers sustained injuries. Several vehicles were also set ablaze as the unrest spread around the meeting venue.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said two people had been arrested as detectives continued with efforts to identify others suspected to have taken part in the violence.
Investigators are examining the events leading to the confrontation and collecting evidence to establish individual responsibility for the reported offences.
The DCI said the investigations would continue until all those linked to the violence are identified and brought before the courts.
The agency has warned that political disagreements cannot be used as a justification for violence or other criminal activities.
According to the DCI, people involved in political activities remain subject to the law regardless of their political affiliations or differences.
The agency particularly warned individuals suspected of attacking members of the public, assaulting police officers, destroying property, burning vehicles or blocking public roads that they would face arrest and prosecution.
The deadly confrontation comes amid heightened political activity as various political groups mobilise supporters and hold meetings across the country.
Police have urged members of the public attending political gatherings to maintain peace and avoid actions that could provoke violence.
Detectives are expected to continue questioning witnesses and reviewing available evidence as they seek to establish what triggered the confrontation and the circumstances surrounding the death.
The two arrests mark the beginning of a wider investigation, with the DCI saying more suspects could be pursued as investigators piece together what happened at Nembure Grounds.
