Three people have died and others sustained injuries after a saloon car lost control, crashed and burst into flames along Ngong Road in Nairobi on Thursday morning, October 29, 2026.
The fatal accident occurred at around 7:25 a.m. near Kenol Stage, close to the Raila Odinga International Stadium, leaving a scene of destruction and raising fresh concerns over road safety in the capital.
According to eyewitness accounts, the dark blue saloon car was travelling at high speed from the Ngong direction when the driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle.
The car is said to have struck the pavement before veering off the road and hitting a woman who was waiting for a matatu to the city centre.
The impact was followed by a fire that quickly engulfed the vehicle, complicating efforts to assist those caught up in the crash.
Reports indicate that the woman died at the scene, while two other victims sustained injuries and were rushed to hospital for medical attention. The full circumstances surrounding the deaths and the identities of the victims had not been officially established at the time of publication.
Images circulating on social media showed the wreckage engulfed in flames, as members of the public and rescuers rushed to the scene to assist.
Eyewitnesses also claimed that police recovered two bottles of alcohol from the wreckage, prompting speculation that the driver may have been under the influence of alcohol. However, the allegation had not been independently confirmed, and the circumstances surrounding the crash remained subject to investigation.
The accident occurred during the morning rush hour, when Ngong Road experiences heavy traffic from motorists and commuters travelling towards Nairobi’s central business district.
The latest tragedy adds to growing concerns over road accidents in Kenya, with calls for motorists to observe speed limits, exercise caution and avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.
Authorities are expected to establish the exact cause of the crash as further details emerge.
Motorists and other road users have been urged to remain vigilant, particularly along busy urban roads where pedestrians, public transport vehicles and private motorists share limited road space.
