The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 20,000 internship vacancies for Junior Secondary Schools across Kenya.

This initiative is designed to support the implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) by offering teacher internship opportunities that will enhance classroom capacity and provide valuable teaching experience for interns.

Application Requirements

To qualify for the internship, candidates must meet specific requirements outlined by the TSC. Prospective applicants must be Kenyan citizens, hold a Diploma in Education with a minimum mean grade of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), and have at least two teaching subjects. Additionally, all applicants must be registered teachers with the TSC.

For individuals with equivalent qualifications from institutions outside Kenya, applicants are encouraged to upload the necessary certificates on the TSC recruitment portal, where the application process will take place. Those trained with Technical Learning Areas or Subjects are especially encouraged to apply.

General Information

The TSC has emphasized that this internship opportunity will provide interns with crucial teaching experience, with the goal of better preparing them for full-time teaching roles. Interns will work under the guidance of experienced teachers who will mentor them throughout the program. Successful applicants will be posted to schools near their home counties or within their preferred counties as per the vacancies available.

Applicants must present several key documents during the application process, including their academic and professional certificates, a copy of their National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card for individuals with disabilities, and a valid Kenyan Identification Card or Passport. Additionally, applicants must have a Personal Accident Insurance Cover for personal protection during the internship.

The Commission has assured applicants that no payments will be required during the application process, warning the public against any form of fraud. Complaints of fraud should be reported directly to the TSC or the nearest police station.

Internship Details

The internship program is set to run for 12 months, with a monthly stipend of Ksh 20,000 for each intern. Although this is a non-remunerative engagement, interns will benefit from professional mentorship and on-the-job experience in junior secondary schools across the country. Upon successful completion of the internship, participants will be awarded a certificate, which can significantly enhance their employment prospects.

The TSC is committed to equal employment opportunities and encourages applicants from all backgrounds, including those with disabilities, to apply. With the deadline set for November 6th, 2024, qualified individuals are encouraged to submit their applications via the TSC’s online portal.
