The truck driver involved in the catastrophic Londiani accident that left at least 50 people dead has opened up for the first time giving a narrative of what occurred on that dreadful day, two days ago.

The driver who is still recovering at the Nakuru Teaching and Referral Hospital said the accident was caused by a brake failure that resulted in  the  truck losing  control.

“I left Simba Cement Factory in Salgaa heading towards Uganda via Busia and lost control over my truck due to brake failure. I was with my co-driver whom I am not sure whether he has been admitted” He said.

“On arriving at the junction heading towards Malaba, I lost control of the vehicle because the brakes could not function and I freaked out”

He stated that the truck was transporting a load of cement bags which were heading to Uganda through the Busia border.

The surviving victims of the accident were also admitted to the same hospital where the doctor attending to them made a statement about the victims’ health progress.

“ Among the victims were three females and six males, the three females have suffered mostly fractures of the lower limbs among the six males, two have head injuries and the other four also suffered mainly head injuries, lower limb injuries and abdominal pains.” The doctor stated.

“The three females have undergone surgery and are currently stable but are not yet discharged. Among the six males one of them succumbed to his injuries”, He added.

The accident claimed  at least 51 lives and left 32 hospitalized.
