Governor James Orengo from Siaya condemned the alleged early morning assault against Linda Mwananchi members in Kisumu, which he declared to be a planned act of intimidation.

Orengo described the incident at Java House Western Mall in a statement which he characterized as a “barbaric and coordinated ambush,” while accusing Godfrey Osotsi and a vital member of the Linda Mwananchi initiative as the primary targets.

“This was not a random act of violence. It reflects a clear and organized pattern meant to silence voices advocating for the people,” according to Orengo.

The governor connected the incident to a previous reported attack at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel in Kakamega which occurred before a political rally, establishing a pattern of targeted intimidation against movement affiliates.

He requested that security agencies conduct immediate action through two tasks namely releasing all CCTV evidence from the incident site and identifying all culprits who must face legal consequences.

“We urge law enforcement agencies to urgently release CCTV footage and take decisive action against those behind this attack,” he said.

Orengo warned that these events had the potential to intensify conflicts between communities, especially between the Luo and Luhya peoples while he urged people to halt activities which he saw as dangerous for community unity.

“These are dangerous attempts at division that must be addressed before they escalate into wider conflict,” he added.

The Linda Mwananchi movement would continue its work despite the incident according to the governor.

“These cowardly acts will not stop us. You cannot kill an idea whose time has come,” Orengo declared.

Authorities had not yet issued any public statement about the incident according to the latest information at the time of publication. Investigations are ongoing.
