Nominated Senator Karen Nyamu has confirmed an ongoing dispute regarding her rented residence in Runda, Nairobi County, but firmly denied claims of financial struggles or tax evasion.

In an interview with journalist,Nyamu, the mother of three clarified that while there is a conflict with her landlord, her household items have not been auctioned.

“There is a dispute, yes, but it’s not because I lack money,” said Nyamu. “My salary is Ksh1.2 million. If I haven’t paid taxes or there’s an issue, it’s not due to financial problems.”

Nyamu acknowledged that disagreements are common in various relationships but dismissed the notion that the conflict indicates financial instability.

“Conflicts happen in all aspects of life—between employers and employees, or even among friends. Yes, there’s a conflict, but I’m not in distress,” she asserted.

The senator also refuted allegations of financial mismanagement or gambling, emphasizing that she lives within her means and utilizes the mortgage facilities provided to senators to secure homes.

“I’m fine; I haven’t been auctioned. There’s just a minor issue that I’m working to resolve,” she reassured.

Nyamu criticized media outlets for spreading false claims about an alleged auction and accused them of sensationalizing her personal matters.

This statement follows reports that surfaced earlier this week, suggesting that brokers were monitoring her property over Ksh1.25 million in alleged tax arrears.

According to court documents issued by Senior Magistrate A.H. Nyoike on November 13, 2024, Fantasy Auctioneers were authorized to recover the amount on behalf of the landlord. The court also instructed the Runda Police Station to provide security during the execution of the order.

“The officer in charge of the Runda Police Station or any other officer under their command should provide assistance to maintain law and order,” the court order read.

Senator Nyamu, however, has opposed the auctioning of her belongings and vowed to resolve the matter amicably.

Despite the legal tussle, Nyamu maintains that her financial standing is stable and the issue will soon be resolved. The controversy has added to the senator’s reputation as a polarizing figure in Kenyan politics, but she remains resolute in addressing the situation.
